Robert C. Huber, CMC, CPCM, was one of seven Delawareans inducted into the Mount Pleasant "Hall of Fame" by the Mount Pleasant High School Historical Society on October 23, 2009, as recognition for their professional achievements and lifetime of community service.
Other "Hall of Fame" recipients included Dr. Arthur Coburn (Cardiologist), Dr. John Crum (Delaware Educator), Dr. Carol Hoffecker (Delaware Historian), Mr. John Jancuska (NCAA Coach), Mr. Rodney Lambert (Sports Hall of Fame) and Dr. Jesse Morris (Psychiatrist).
During his professional career, Mr. Huber started over 150 business operations, trained over 2,000 employees, and has worked with over 200 college, university, healthcare, and corporate campuses throughout North America.
While a senior at Mount Pleasant High School (Wilmington, Delaware), along with Jesse Morris, Student Council President, he co founded WMPH-FM - the first F.C.C. licensed high school radio station in the State of Delaware.
In 2009, WMPH celebrated its 40th Anniversary with over 3,000 student alumni, one of the oldest student operated radio stations in the nation and now heard around the world at www.WMPH.org.
Bob earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Barrington College (Barrington, RI) where he founded and managed his second campus radio station (WBCW) and staff of 50 students.
While living in New England, he worked as a manager at several hotels in Rhode Island and Massachusetts - including the Holiday Inn - Providence Downtown as Head Auditor and Night Manager.
Bob greatly expanded his management capabilities when he was hired by a Burger King franchisee (Jan Companies). His rapid rise included nine management positions (cumulative) and completion of extensive training programs at Burger King University (Miami). He became a senior manager with the expanding franchise, opened 45 Burger King Restaurants, and eventually was responsible for the operation of 52 restaurants in 5 states.
After being recruited to co-develop a commercial food production & planning management system for large colleges and universities at Concept Systems Incorporated, he was also given the challenge to convert a door access system into a new meal plan card system for higher education and healthcare institutions.
Soon thereafter, he introduced student "debit" accounts, facilitated development of new industry technology for expanded applications beyond dining halls, and replaced paper IDs with durable plastic multi-function cards designed to survive four years on a college campus.
In 1985, after being recruited by Harco Industries Inc., Mr. Huber co-developed the revolutionary "All Campus Card" concept (non-patented) which transformed traditional college ID cards into dynamic multi application and multi-campus electronic portfolios.
This historic industry innovation provided a new management and technological tool which served as the impetus for development of hundreds of customer-focused applications at food service outlets, snack & beverage vending machines, copiers and computer labs, laundry machines, special event access, library privileges verification, door and parking access security, as well as new institutional revenue opportunities at nearby off campus merchants.
Advanced technology credentials (i.e., cards, badges, keyfobs), reader based transaction systems, and the convenience of 24/7 electronic account deposits, have resulted in the implementation of this concept at over 5,000 colleges, universities, hospitals, and corporate campuses throughout the world.
Robert Huber is president of Robert Huber Associates, an international business consultancy in Scottsdale, Arizona, and an Adjunct Instructor for business and professional development studies with the Maricopa County Community College District serving the greater Phoenix metropolitan area.
Robert C. Huber, CMC, CPCM, is a dual-certified business consultant, author, leader, futurist, industry analyst, card technology expert, college instructor, media resource, intrapreneur, entrepreneur and frequent conference speaker.
